Do You Know Your Actual Self?

When you look in the mirror, who do you see looking back at you? Although the answer to this question may seem easy, this is actually a very complicated question. This is because knowing your true self, your actual self is an important skill to accepting yourself, but it is also a difficult skill to master. So, the real question is, do you know your actual self?

What Does It Mean To Know Your Actual Self?

When you know your actual self, you will always know exactly what you need to do in every situation that presents itself. You won’t need to ask for permission, or second guess yourself because the answer will be obvious.

This takes a lot of doubt and stress out of your life because there is no decision paralysis or stress over thinking you may have chosen the wrong choice—because you know who your actual self is and that you made the right decision for you.

Knowing yourself also means you will never waste time on something you don’t enjoy. This doesn’t mean that you won’t make mistakes or have to make changes, it simply means that you will know that everything you have done, even if it didn’t work out, was worth your while and part of who you are.

How Do You Know If You Know Your Actual Self?

As mentioned above, when you know your actual self, you won’t feel stress or regret when it comes to decisions in the past or the present. So, if you are going through your life now filled with regret over a decision you made, then the answer is obvious, you don’t know your actual self.

When you know your actual self, you will be filled with confidence about who you are and the things you are doing in your life. Thus, if you find yourself lacking in confidence, this is another sign you don’t know your actual self.

Ways To Find Your Actual Self

If you are reading this and discovering you don’t know who your actual self is, this can be a disheartening realization. But don’t fret, as it just takes a little bit of patience and time to discover your actual self. You can start by making a list of all the things you are great at in life. And if there is something you’ve always wanted to try, go for it, because you never know when you might find your calling!

Besides just spending time reflecting on who you are and all the things you’ve accomplished, you can also ask for feedback from friends and family on what they think your talents are. This will help you to know how others see you and maybe bring to light parts of your life that you aren’t conveying to others in a manner you like.

You should also take this time to assess your relationships. Why were you attracted to a certain person? Why do you like to spend time with a specific friend? The answers to these questions can help you discover more about yourself by reflecting on your interactions with others which can bring you one step closer to discovering who you really are.

The Bottom Line

Knowing if you know your actual self or not isn’t an easy task. But if you find yourself lacking in confidence and regretting decisions in your life, then it’s probably time to work on discovering your true self.

You can discover your actual self by reflecting back on the things you love and are  good at, while also viewing yourself through the eyes of others. You will be much happier and more at peace with your life once you discover your actual self, so start the journey to discovering who you really are today!
